Why am I Considering A Housing Change?
As you age your needs change. The starter
house that you bought when you were first married may have
been traded
in a few years later for a larger one as children arrived.
And now the house that you raised your children in may
seem too large. The family room that you added seems
empty and there is no longer a need for four bedrooms.
The upkeep is time-consuming, it is expensive to run,
the basement location of the washer and dryer is difficult
and you worry about the house when you travel. It may
just no longer be the house for you.
For all of these
reasons— and more—we face
decisions about our housing needs. These decisions are
never easy and require consideration. Read this section
on moving, do the exercises, and assess your housing needs
and wants. Ask yourself “Why am I considering a housing
change?” Even if you are not ready to make a move—know
your housing options so later on if you do need to make
a change, you can make an informed decision that is best
for you.
